YAYOI IKAWA

YAYOI IKAWA – piano

Born in Tokyo Japan, Yayoi started playing piano at the age of three. She quickly became a classical pianist, however, she decided to postpone further musical studies until she found her interest in jazz. She continued her studies at the New School University with many legends of jazz such as Geri Allen, Buster Williams, Billy Hart, Lee-Ann Ledgerwood, Gerard D’Angelo, to name a few. But her most influental professor was a legendary bassist Reggie Workman. As a conclusion she gave her senior recital featuring her compositions to graduate from The New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program. Yayoi performs regularly with the world famous musicians as Reggie Workman, Charlie Pership, Butch Morris, Frank Lacy, etc. Her first recording with her trio will be released this year in Japan.

YAYOI IKAWA – klavir

Yayoi Ikawa, rojena v Tokyu na Japonskem, je začela igrati klavir že pri svojih treh letih. Kmalu je postala pianistka klasične glasbe in se hkrati začela zanimati za jazz. Svoj študij je nadaljevala na New School University z mnogimi legendami jazz ko so: Geri Allen, Buster Williams, Billy Hart, Lee-Ann Ledgerwood, Gerard D’Angelo in drugi. Učitelj, ki je nanjo najbolj vplival pa je bil legendarni basist Reggie Workman. Ob zaključku šolanja je odigrala “senior recital”, na katerem je igrala večinoma lastne skladbe in s katerim je diplomirala na New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program.

Yayoi redno nastopa s svetovno znanimi glasbeniki kot so: Reggie Workman, Charlie Pership, Butch Morris, Frank Lacy in mnogi drugi. Njena prva solo plošča bo izšla letos na Japonskem.
