in Philadelphia Reggie Workman became fond of music in his high school years.
Starting in1959, he became a member of groups with: John Coltrane, Art Blakey
Jazz Messengers, Lee Morgan, Thelonious Monk, Booker Little, Elvin Jones,
Alice Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and many others. One of his
best works is recording with John Coltrane on Africa Bass. Mr. Workman soon
became one of the key representatives in the growing world of jazz music. In
1983 he started to write music for dancers and produced with Maya Milenovic a
series of concerts and educational workshops in New York. His collaboration with Alice
Coltrane resulted in one of the most memorable concerts of John Coltrane
Legacy in New York’s Cathedral St. John Divine in 1987. He
has been a professor of music at the New School University (NYC) since 1987.
